The Best and Worst Fashion Trends of 2006

2006 was not the worst year for fashion but it did have several elements that made the fashions of this year ugly. The first item on the worst fashion trends of 2006 was the “scrawny chic” look. This look pushed thinness to organ failure. Fortunately Spain took steps to correct this fashion problem by rejecting models that were too thin.

Besides the “scrawny chic” mistake of 2006, there were a few other fashion don’ts that made an appearance during this year. First there was the fashion trend of wearing black tights with just about anything. While this updated legging style may have been popular, looking back it really seemed to be a fad that hopefully won’t be repeated in 2007. Finally ugly shoes seemed to dominate the 2006 shoe market.

While 2006 seemed to have had a few black eyes when it comes to fashion mistakes, it also offered a lot of great fashion trends that I hope will be forwarded to the new year. First fashion designers finally expanded their horizons to include non-00 sized bodies, and over-20 markets. This expansion made fashion forward design accessible for more people. Finally great shades of blues and greens entered the color palette of 2006. These great colors offered depth to the otherwise bleak color palette of last season.

Fall 2006 showed some dramatic changes from the early fashion seasons of 2006. It included modern looks that played with layers, textures, colors and shapes. Classical looks made a return, as did country casual styles. The variety and classy update of styles for the Fall/Winter 2006 was definitely one of the best things about the 2006 fashion year.
